Triphala

We prefer this brand because...

Triphala is a fabulous bowel tonic, a blend of three fruits used in Ayurvedic medicine:  amla, beleric myrobalan, and chebulic myrobalan.  It is neither fiber nor a laxative: It has the unusual effect of re-educating the bowel muscle, encouraging normal, easy peristalsis, moving the contents along at a steady, healthy pace.  If you occasionally experience bloating, gas, and elimination issues, Triphala can help you feel better, while also helping you maintain long-term GI tract health.

Even patients with years of constipation have easier, spontaneous stools, and well emptied within a few weeks of starting the deeply nourishing digestive aid.  After a few weeks, they can often reduce their dose, then gradually wean off triphala and the bowel continues to function well, apparently having “learned” to evacuate efficiently.

About this product

Triphala is a traditional Ayurvedic blend, used for well over 2,000 years, that is made from three dried fruits:   Amala (Indian gooseberry), Bibhitaki (Terminalia bellirica) and Haritaki (Terminalia chebula).  Separately and together, these ingredients of Triphala offer a multitude of health benefits that supports gastrointestinal wellness for long term, healthy digestion and elimination.

Amla (Emblica officinalis) is a natural source of antioxidants, an immune supporter and prized rejuvenator that is very high in vitamin C, more 20 times the amount of vitamin C in an orange! It helps to fight off infections and neutralizes harmful free radicals, potentially reducing the risk of chronic diseases.  The high vitamin C and antioxidants also support eye health, improving vision and reducing macular degeneration and cataract risks.

For digestion, Amla stimulates the secretion of digestive enzymes which helps to break down food; bloating and indigestion can be prevented by this enhanced nutrient absorption, Amla helps to soften stools, is a natural laxative, aids in detoxification by removing toxins and waste products and it is rich in dietary fiber, which adds bulk to the stool and helps prevent constipation. Additionally, Amla helps balance stomach acid levels, reducing heartburn and acidity and it has anti-inflammatory compounds that sooth the digestive tract and helps to prevent conditions like gastritis and irritable bowel syndrome.

Haritaki (Terminalia chebula) is traditionally known for its detoxifying effect and its ability to improve digestion and constipation; it cleanses the digestive tract and removes toxins and waste products which supports overall GI health.  Haritaki has anti-inflammatory and immune-boosting properties that help to protect the body against infections and diseases.

Bibhitaki (Terminalia bellirica) is also known for its digestive benefits with its detoxifying qualities that eliminate toxins and promote healthy bowel movement. The antioxidants help to combat free radicals, protecting the body from oxidated stress and reducing the risk of chronic diseases.

Healthy digestion and elimination are important in achieving optimal body weight so Triphala and weight loss go hand in hand.  Some studies suggests that Triphala may aid in weight loss by promoting fat metabolism and reducing appetites. Triphala has also been shown to promote healthy lipid and cholesterol levels.
