About this product

Lion’s Mane mushrooms are found on broad leaf trees and logs, appearing as a white waterfall of cascading icicles and they are quite delicious.  Rich in vitamins such as thiamine, riboflavin, and niacin, they are also a good source of essential minerals such as manganese, zinc, and potassium. Lion’s Mane mushrooms (or Hou Tou Gu) are a traditional time-honored Chinese medicine used for centuries, valued for improving focus and believed to benefit the five Yin organs (liver, spleen heart, lungs and kidneys).  Modern science confirms that Lion’s Mane has several well-documented benefits for memory and brain health plus much more.

For cognitive function, studies suggest that lion’s mane can stimulate the production of nerve growth factor (NGF) which promotes the growth and repair of brain cells which may enhance memory and focus which can protect the brain from Alzheimer’s-related damage.  Lion’s mane contains two compounds, hericenones and erinacines, that can stimulate  brain cell connections which tend to decline with age. A 2020 study of patients with mild Alzheimer’s disease found that taking lion’s mane for 49 weeks led to improved cognitive test results. Several research trials have confirmed that lion’s mane can reverse memory loss and may protect against Alzheimer’s progression.

Lion’s man can promote the repair of brain cells and there is some evidence that lion’s mane can help recovery after brain or nervous system injuries, including mild concussions with mental fog and memory loss, or more major traumatic brain injury. By enhancing the repair of neurons and nerve cells, lion’s mane shows promise for reducing the severity of brain injury after a stroke.

Lion’s mane contains powerful antioxidant and anti-inflammatory constituents that protect the brain and nervous system from environmental oxidative damage. These anti-inflammatory compounds may help to reduce chronic inflammation and shield the body from autoimmune disorders and inflammatory bowel diseases.

For mood and stress, Lion’s mane can relieve mild depression and anxiety; some research indicated this is possibly due to the anti-inflammatory protective actions for the brain and the ability to promote the regeneration of brain cells. It appears that lion’s mane improves the function of the hippocampus, a part of the brain that manages emotions and memory.

Lion’s mane shows promise for action against several other chronic conditions including cardiovascular disease, high triglycerides or cholesterol, diabetes, and gastric ulcers; each can reduce brain health.
